On Wednesday, January 21, Chugach corporate delivered 430.32 lbs. of food items along with individual employee food donations to the Camai Printing warehouse in preparation for delivery to Emmonak, Alaska. The village of Emmonak is located in Southwest Alaska and a combination of extreme cold and high fuel prices has created a humanitarian crisis for the village, according to local resident Nicholas Tucker. In a letter sent out as a cry for help, Tucker describes economic conditions in which families are rationing food and warmth for themselves and their children in the village of 800.
Chugach donated $1,000 toward the purchase of food items and dry goods and the rest of the donations came from corporate employees who continue to bring in donations. Lyndon Transport will be shipping out Chugach's donations to the village on Friday, January 23, 2009.
