Argentinean Dignitaries and Potomac Job Corps Center Staff and Students Partner to Help Youth
On Tuesday December 8, 2009 several representatives from the Argentina Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Services visited Potomac Job Corps Center, located in southwest Washington, D.C. Among those in the group were Argentina’s Training Employment Director and the Director of National Youth and Employment Program. During the visit, dignitaries toured the 64 acres facilities of the Center, met with students, and were introduced to Job Corps program firsthand.
“We would like to initiate a program similar to Job Corps in Argentina,” said the Director of Argentina’s National Youth and Employment Program Federico Luduena. “Job Corps seems to be such a powerful program to educate and prepare youth for the life-long journey. This is a phenomenal opportunity for the young generation.”
During the tour, the Argentinean delegation visited career technical trades, residential living facilities, and the recreation center. At the end of the tour, guests were treated to the delectable entrees prepared and served by Potomac Culinary Arts students.
“This was a great opportunity for everyone involved,” said Della Mosley, Work-Based Learning Coordinator at Potomac Job Corps Center. “Even though we are dealing with youth from two different countries, we had the opportunity to exchange ideas and work together toward our common goal: helping young people obtain and sustain employment.”
