Two decades ago the Alaska Job Corps Center site was an empty gravel pit. At that time, U.S. Senator Ted Stevens was building a relationship with the Department of Labor. He saw the need for an Alaska Job Corps Center to help and house young Alaskans training for the workplace.
Senator Ted Stevens worked diligently with the administration, the United States Congress, local government and the Alaska State Legislature to ensure that the Alaska Job Corps Center became a reality.
Today, the Alaska Job Corps Center consists of 20 landscaped acres, classrooms, dorms and functional space. The Alaska Job Corps Center, operated by Chugach Government Services Inc. (CGSI), has graduated thousands of Alaska students, which is a fulfillment of Senator Stevens’ dream.
Senator Stevens visited the Alaska Job Corps center at various times and was always welcomed by the staff and 250 students from all over Alaska.
In memoriam, the Alaska Job Corps Center will be planting a tree in his honor.
