Rebuilding St. Michael the Archangel Orthodox Church in Cordova, AlaskaOn October 25, 2009 the new church was consecreated by Bishop Benjamin. Father Alexei Knagin, an Alaska Native from the Kodiak region and the resident priest of Cordova was instrumental in seeing this project through completion. A big thank you to Father Alexei!

Another Apprentice Success Story – Donna MalchoffDonna Malchoff successfully completed her CAC apprenticeship program on November 6, 2009. Chugach Alaska Services, Inc. (CASI) hired her as a full-time employee on November 9, 2009. Donna learned a great deal during her apprenticeship in our dynamic environment of “operations.” She did not shy away from new or daunting tasks. She jumped right in, learning along the way, asking questions, and then producing an excellent product. Donna takes her work seriously and is genuinely interested in the success.... Chugach Regional Portal Launches to ShareholdersChugach is launching the new “Chugach Regional Portal” website on November 1, 2009. We are pleased to offer this new website to shareholders in an effort to provide information about the company, news and events, dividend schedule, forms and applications, jobs and training, and other region related resources. This portal will be updated weekly and will provide faster information than our current quarterly newsletters. Chugach is moving with the changing times… 36th Chugach Shareholder Annual Meeting Election Results - October 17, 2009The results of the 36th Chugach Alaska Corporation Annual Shareholders’ Meeting held on October 17, 2009 at the Captain Cook Hotel in Anchorage, Alaska include the re-election of incumbent directors Sheri Buretta (left), Donna Platt (center) and Mike McCanna (right). UAA Website Details Benefits of Native Corporation 8(a) ContractingAt the request of Senator Mark Begich, the Institute of Social and Economic Research (ISER) at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) released a website detailing the benefits of 8(a) contracting, Benefits of Alaska Native Corporations and the SBA 8(a) Program to Alaska Natives and Alaska.
The report is a collection of documents published from 1984 to 2009. Each contains a historical or contemporary explanation of the continuing development of Alaska’s Native populations and the Chugach V.P. of Cultural Resources Featured in New BookSECTION 14(h)(1) of ANCSA affords Alaska Native people a "once in a lifetime" chance to reclaim historic and prehistoric properties they established and utilized long before the advancement of Russians and Americans to this part of the so-called 'New World." This section of ANCSA was negotiated in part by relinquishing vast tracts of ancestral homelands in return for traditional and subsistence lands that had been occupied for over 5,000 years by the original landlords. Peter Andersen, Jr. - President of CASIThe Board of Directors of Chugach Alaska Services Inc. (CASI) has selected Peter Andersen, Jr. to fill the position of President of CASI. Peter is a Chugach shareholder descendent and is coming to us from Alyeska Pipeline Service Company where he was Director of the Service Company’s Ship Escort and Response Vessel System (SERVS) in Valdez, AK. During his eight years with Alyeska SERVS, he has steadily progressed with increased responsibility, starting out as a Response Coordinator, then the Civil War Wreakage Found in PWSOn July 8, 1868, the 141 foot Civil War era vessel named the “Torrent” under contract with the U.S. Army slammed into a rocky reef and sank in lower Cook Inlet near the Chugach villages of Port Graham and Nanwalek. The ship was built in Maine in 1851 and its homeport was San Francisco.
